I have taken more than 6000 shots with my Canon since I bought it a year ago. I think I probably have most of them saved on my computer. I look through them all; it takes awhile, and I can easily see that I am not very good at taking pictures.
When I look at the Art of Vaggelisf, Star-buck and Ryser915; and there are so many more, I am shattered. Brought down to earth. I really enjoy the talent on deviantArt. I also see that there are people out there who feel it is their duty and Right to rip into obvious talent, I assume it's envy. I have to admit I'm envious, but I think the really good artists on deviantArt, the ones I am envious of, can only make me better as I try to get one picture that's as good as thiers
I think that out of 6000+ shots I have taken with this camera maybe 400 are O.K.! I take about 50 shots everytime and that is the only reason I have that many, once in awhile I get one or two good ones. From those I have put 90 or so on deviantArt, and I know they are not good enough.
My kids are artists, granted not professionals, but they have real talent. They draw, sing, play instruments, take amazing pictures. My wife (best friend)is a photographer with natural talent, she see's the picture before she takes it, and it's usually very good. When she draws a doodle it's as good as something I have to work hard at.
How do some people become so talented? I know you can learn some of it. (I bought books, the guy in these books told me that if I really want to take good pictures I should go and spend thousands of dollars on better camera equipement, I should spend $1500 on all the Photoshop programs I can get so even "my" pictures will look good. My daughters camera cost less than half what I paid for mine, her pictures are amazing,so I think spending alot is somewhat overated.) Some of it is a gradual increase in experience. Location and opportunity are factors. But when it comes down to it, God given talent is the deciding factor.
So as it is summer now, and the flowers and birds and bears and bees are out, so am I. I am going outside to take another 6000+ pictures, maybe I will get a good one or two.
